MouseWalk: Head-fixed free movement out of the box and onto the rig

The innovative, neuroscientist-designed MouseWalk platform supports concurrent multimodal data acquisition, including electrophysiology, functional ultrasound, and optogenetics, whilst addressing a growing  neuroethological need to preserve naturalistic behavior without sacrificing recording precision.

This webinar will showcase a novel head-fixed ambulation platform that enables simultaneous restrained electrophysiology and freely-moving behavior featuring our silicon neural probes and RODIN Head-fixation System. MouseWalk also enables omnidirectional locomotion on a flat, naturalistic surface with defined spatial boundaries, providing mice with an ethologically relevant environment while maintaining stability for precision neural recording and imaging.

Marcus Bell is an MD/PhD student whose doctoral work focuses on neuromodulation and its translational applications. To meet his experimental needs, he and his team designed their novel MouseWalk system and in the process launched Bellwether Biotech, a preclinical neurotechnology company developing precision tools for systems neuroscience research.
